Exercising Historical Interpretation:
Essay on the Changing Meanings of Freedom
Writing
an essay is a skill that you will be called upon to use through
out your college career. As with all skills, writing an essay
takes practice to master. This project is designed to give you
some experience writing the kind of essay you may find on many
college exams. Rather than doing the essay in class, with the
clock ticking, we are going to take the time to begin drafting
the essay in class, but then you will take what you have started
home and polish it up.
Your assignment is to write a 4- page essay in response to
the following question:
What do you think the idea of freedom has represented to Americans since the time of the American Revolution?
To answer this question, you should use the information in the textbook, Give Me Liberty! and in class lectures. You do not need to do any research beyond
these assigned class materials. Essays should be typed, double-spaced.
Please save your essay as a Microsoft Word document. Essays must be submitted through Blackboard VISTA.
Essays are due on Friday, April 24 by 11:59pm.
This assignment is worth 100 pts.
