Step One. Please read and watch the materials at each of the sites on the Historic Tour of New York City.

These sites discuss the growth of urban areas like New York City during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Much of this growth resulted from the arrival of immigrants. As you visit each site, download the Souvenir Ticket to your computer.

Once you have read and watched these materials, write a brief essay (approximately 1000 words) describing what it was like for new immigrants in New York City. What challenges did they face? What kinds of activities and places might they have engaged in and visited. What contributions did the make? How did these immigrants expand the meaning of freedom in America. Attach your Souvenir Tickets to the end of your essay.

Step Two. Log on to Canvas and click the button for the Historic Tour project. Upload your essay. Essays should be in Microsoft Word or rft format.
