Not everyone who lived in colonial America during the eighteenth century supported the American Revolution. And even those who were in favor of independence from Britain, supported the revolution for different reasons. These divisions and differences had an impact on the debate over what kind of government should replace the monarchy once the colonies became an independent nation.
The images below, based on photographs of historical re-enactors at Colonial Williamsburg, represent people from different regions, walks of life, and cultures who lived in North America at the time of the Revolution.
In the Unit 1 Project you will be asked to consider how one of these fictional historical characters would react to the Revolution and the drafting of the Constitution.
When you log on to Canvas to complete the assignment, you will be randomly assigned one of these characters:
* a slave from Georgia
* an artisan from Boston
* a wealthy merchant from New York City
* a small farmer on the western frontier
* a Virginia plantation owner
* a wealthy Massachusetts woman
* a Philadelphia lawyer
* a colonial official
* an Anglican minister
* a Native American
* a Quaker farmer from Pennsylvania
Your task will be to respond to three questions about the Revolution and the Constitution from the perspective of the character Canvas has assigned you.
